Why make a Christmas list online?
An online Christmas list avoids duplicates and off-target gifts: your friends and family see what you'd like, with the link to buy it, and claim what they're giving. You can't see what's claimed, so the surprise stays intact.
A list for a child
A child doesn't need a phone: you keep their list for them and share it with the family. Everyone claims what they're giving, so Santa never buys the same toy twice.

- Add wishes at several prices: not everyone has the same budget.
- Give the size, color or edition when it matters.
- Add ideas without a link too: a book, an outing, time together.
